Work permit System , Scopes and Types.

Aspect of work permit.      
 

A work permit has following scopes.

1. Work execution department who is seeking a job must be identified in work permit first.
2. Type of work permit
3. Equipment used
4. Identification work permit issuer, work executor, Permit approve person, Area owner.

Work permit issuer may be Engineer, Shift supervisor, Plant in charge, Senior technician, Assistant engineer, etc

Work executor is from service department like Diploma or Engineer in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrument, safety, IT, Third party person.

Permit approving person must be Engineer or equal qualified person with higher experience which holds good knowledge and familiar with all types of risks and scopes of accidents.

Area owner is a person who is operating and working on it. He may be Operator, Technician, Officer, Junior engineer etc.

5. Permit data must be maintained


1. Types of work permit.       

1. Cold/General work permit
2. Hot work permit
3. Height work permit 
4. Excavation work permit 
5. Vessel Entry work permit
6. Lifting/Shifting Work permit
7. Lock out / Lock in Work permit

1. Vessel Entry work permit

Vessel Entry is not allowed without taking bellowed checking. In reactor, Tank , Chamber  , Pipe , etc Safety Officer will check Oxigen level and other gases level then afer he signed on permit.

Check points for vessel Entry:

1. All electrical energies line are isolated , Lock out Tag should be there.
2. All rotating parts must be locked. Lock out Tag should be there.
3. All inlets points are blinded.
4. All drains points are open.
5. Temperature should be near room temperature
6. Continue air flow in confined area is pure fresh breathing air.
7. Manhole is bonded with heavy rope or chain which are not breakable.
8. Outside standby person is required with this dedicated job.
9. Oxygen is checked in each 2 hours. It should be 19.9 .
10 Good lighting must provided (24 volts).
11 Nitrogen line should be blinded.

2. General Work permit :-

In this type of permit work all general work to be done .In this safety officers role is not must be careful and work.

3. Height Work Permit:-

In this type of permit whenever work is on or equal to 1.8 meter then it's important . Safety Belt is must required to do work on above this height.

4. Hot work permit:-

Hot work permit is required for bellowed work

• Welding 
• Open flames
• Spark generating work
• Grinding
• Hammering etc
• Cutting

Check points : 

• Keep 9 KG Dry chemical powder extinguisher  near working area
• Fire water hose must be laid.
• Flammable gas monitoring must continuous
• Near by equipment like reactor should be filled with water.
